The
Conscious and the Subconscious Mind
The mind, just like an iceberg consists of two parts: the tip of
the iceberg and its hidden depths. The tip of the iceberg represents
the conscious mind and is the ‘analytical’ part which
helps us and assists us with the logical processing. The hidden
depth of the iceberg represents the subconscious mind. This is the
‘feeling’ part which consists of many components such
as:
- Emotions
- Memories
- The
autonomic nervous system

The
conscious mind and the subconscious mind are separated by a 'filter'
which restricts what is accessed internally an externally. So
even though the conscious mind may make a decision to do something,
the subconscious mind may not receive the information or instructions
and therefore may not comply. This leaves us with the uncomfortable
feeling and behaviours that we cannot clear and change.

Hypnosis
Hypnosis
is an altered state of consciousness whereby the conscious mind
is in a relaxed neutral state and can be bypassed to allow direct
communication to the subconscious. Hypnosis is also known as 'trance'
and is a natural experience which occurs to us daily. For example;
-
Daydreaming and losing track of time
-
Being so absorbed in something that you are doing that you forget
where you are
-
Feeling detached from your worries for a while
-
The monotony of a journey or activity nearly putting you to
sleep
If
you have experienced any of these you have been in trance. The
benefit that a Hypnotherapist provides is to guide this state
of hypnosis in order to achieve the changes you desire. You
cannot be hypnotised against your will but everyone can be hypnotised
if they choose.

Hypnotherapy
While
in a state of hypnotic trance positive changes are made and desired
goals are achieved. Goals are reached only if it is your free
will and choice. These changes can be emotional, behavioural
and physical.
All
healing is the responsibility of the person choosing to make the
change. We heal ourselves by accepting responsibility and making
the commitment ourselves. This is very individual choice.
Your
healing depends on your desire to change. The MOST important factor
in Hypnotherapy and in all forms of healing, including Energy
Therapy, is that making any positive change is based on your
true desire to make the change! Many people hand over
the responsibility of making positive change in their life to
the Therapist and assume that the Therapist will HEAL them. Quite
the contrary. A Therapist/Practitioner is NOT a 'healer',
but a facilitator for healing. All healing is the responsibility
of the person choosing to make the change.
A
client will do 90% of the work and the Therapist will do 10%.
This means is that a client will need to be the participant
NOT the observer. A Hynotherapist is there to help you
help your self.
There
are many applications of Hypnotherapy. Some examples of what can
be achieved are:

Some
Styles of Hypnotherapy There
are many styles of healing that can be used while in a state of
trance because of the ability of the conscious mind being bypassed
and direct communication with the subconscious mind. Some of these
are:
-
Direct Suggestion Therapy
-
Analytical Therapy
-
Ericksonian Therapy
-
Ego State Therapy
- Transactional
Analysis
-
Trauma Incident Reduction
|
| |
How
deep will I go in Hypnotherapy? Hypnosis
can feel different from person to person and the experience is
different each time one goes into trance. The different states
of hypnosis are:
- Waking
Trance
- Light
Trance
-
Medium Trance
-
Deep Trance
-
Somnambulism
All
of these states produce powerful results.
|
| |
What
will I feel during a Hypnotherapy session? Everyone
will experience trance differently and every person will experience
each session differently so letting go of expectations and fears,
letting go of control and most importantly the need to actively
participate will allow the experience to be enjoyable and productive
for you. Some of the sensations likely to be felt are:
-
Slow breathing
-
Deep relaxation
-
Heaviness in the body and a reluctance to move
-
Tingling in arms and/or legs
-
Heightened sensations
-
Drifting in and out of conscious awareness
-
A natural sleep
|
| |
How
long will it take before I see the results?
Everyone is different and it is difficult to have an expectation
of when results will be 'obvious'. Changes may be very noticeable
and apparent in a short period of time, even after one session
and at other times the changes may be subtle and gradual to start
and you may not notice any results until after few sessions.
The
number of sessions will vary depending on each individual, their
goal/s and nature of the issue being cleared. Some issues are
only at surface level while others can be held deeper, which can
take more time to clear.
It
is often experienced that other changes connected to the main
issue (and often unconnected), will be revealed in time, long
after the therapy is completed.
